About The Exhibition

The exhibition “I have been here before II” is based old black and white photographic images taken in Broome circa 1950. These photographs are from the Ellies family collection which depict Broome life from an era ago. Using a contemporary twist, a unique story is created in each image by painting ‘The Broome Kids’ amongst the historical photos. The exhibition is a story. It is a story of balance between the present and the past and about people. It is nostalgic, reflective, curious and contemplative. It evokes feelings of recognition, past-times, joy and loss. It offers a reflection of Broome’s past history and culture.

The photos in the exhibition are also presented on 4 large mixed media canvas and a display of functional ceramic pieces including vases, platters and cups which all have representation of the images screened or painted onto each one.
